SURRY, Va. (AP) - One of the vessels in the Virginia Department of Transportation's ferry fleet is out of service due to a mechanical malfunction.
The department said Tuesday that the Surry was removed from service late Monday for emergency maintenance.
The Pocahontas and the Williamsburg will continue to follow the normal schedule. But they may have to be taken out of service occasionally for refueling. The Virginia will be put into service during these times and 25 to 50 fewer vehicles will be transported per hour.
The ferries take motorists across the James River.
