NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - TME Enterprises, Inc. is facing misdemeanor charges for illegally dumping pollutants into the City of Norfolk's stormwater system.

According to the summons, TME, a Hampton Roads-based contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation, "unlawfully put... any filth, chips, compost, construction debris, shavings, or any other substance" directly into the city's storm water system or into water leading to stormwater.

Document: TME summons

The documents state the polluting occurred between Jan. 16, 2013 and Feb. 6, 2013.

According to Norfolk City spokeswoman Lori Crouch, the violation occured at 609 Naval Base Road. Crouch told WAVY.com VDOT confirmed that "the discharge and wastes seen by investigators was consistent with wastes generated by vacuum operations and not authorized to be disposed of in such a manner."

TME was most notably involved in the emergency pothole repairs on Interstate 264 eastbound late last week

Commonwealth Transportation Board officials told WAVY.com earlier this week TME's response time regarding the pothole repairs is under fire.

TME has been awarded more than $30 million by VDOT to conduct work in Hampton Roads and recently renewed the company's contract to work in the area.

A hearing has been scheduled for March 19.  The charges are misdemeanors.
