VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Four intersections along Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach are changing this weekend to improve safety following dozens of crashes.
Officials say accidents were caused by many drivers failing to yield on left turns. Starting Saturday and continuing on for six months, drivers will see flashing yellow arrows at intersections along Rosemont between Interstate 264 and Holland Road.

"The circular green will be replaced by the flashing yellow arrow. This is equal to the green and its equal to the flashing yellow arrow," Beach traffic engineer Robert Gey said.
The yellow lights are part of a $20,000 pilot project aimed at improving traffic safety.
"With high congestion trying to get through the lights, make the turns, getting to and from work, it can be a high number of crashes," Gey said. "We think its going to be safer and more efficient. This is going to be the wave of the future. Other cities are implementing this. We'll be the first city on the South Side of Hampton Roads to implement this flashing yellow arrow."
