VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Two women caught on camera stealing from area schools and day care centers may have hit a seventh location.
On Wednesday, Virginia Beach police said the suspects have stolen from elementary schools and private day care facilities across the city since November 2011.
Police said the suspects entered classrooms, offices, and libraries and take unattended personal property including purses, credit cards, and money.
Bayside Elementary , Thoroughgood Elementary , Providence Elementary , Pocahontas Preschool, Childrens Center of Kempsville , Childtime on Pleasant Valley and another location were hit between November 1, 2011 and January 10, 2012.
Thursday, the Assistant Day Care Director at the Childtime Learning Centers location on Pleasant Valley Road confirmed a similar incident happened at their center.
Virginia Beach Schools spokeswoman Eileen Cox said the women would tell security officers they wanted to register their children for school. Cox said their next stop should have been to the school's main office, but with a pass in hand, the suspects wandered throughout the building.
"That kind of bothers me to have my son come to an establishment of learning and then have two strange women just walk around," Derrick Valentine said.
When the suspects targeted day care facilities, they requested a tour to obtain access.
Children's Center Of Kempsville Director Marcia White said, "They came in the front door here and came into my office and we talked about the school."
White said one woman asked to use the restroom and while White showed the other woman around, someone stole her camera, cash and a credit card.
White said she didn't notify parents of the Jan. 10 incident.
"I didn't want the parents to be alarmed because it just really personally affected me," White explained.
Cox said parents weren't notified about the incidents at Bayside, Thoroughgood or Providence Elementary Schools because it was a simple property crime and students and staff were not in danger.
Police said they had no record of an incident at Childtime Learning Centers.
