VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Hundreds of shoppers lined up outside of the new Whole Foods store in the Hilltop section of Virginia Beach.
The natural and organic foods supermarket opened Wednesday in a new 40,000 square foot location at 1800 Laskin Road.
The supermarket brought along with it 105 full-time jobs to the area and local farmers are expected to get an economic boost from store.
Whole Foods carries local seafood, produce and meat, meaning local fishers and farmers in the area will get more exposure and sales. Stickers reading 'From around here' mean the product was harvested, produced or made within 100 miles of Virginia Beach.
"They actually had some really cool bath salts, that were all local," Suffolk resident Cassie Gaffney said. "I really do appreciate that because I think supporting the local community is one of the best things markets like this can do."
The new store is the largest Whole Foods location in the region.
