VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach City Council moved forward with a study exploring the financial aspects of brining The Tide to the Beach.
The ordinance, "authorizing use of reasonable efforts" to support the development of light rail to Virginia Beach, was approved 10-0 by council Tuesday evening.
Mayor Will Sessoms said the results of a new study should be in by June or July of 2013 and will give the city a better idea of how much it will cost to build the light rail.
A consultant group estimated it could cost $254 million to bring the light rail from Newtown Road to Town Center, and $807 million to build light rail to the Oceanfront.
More than 60 percent of Virginia Beach residents approved the light rail referendum Nov. 6.
