ZABUL, AFGHANISTAN (WAVY) - A locally-based Navy SEAL supporting Operation Enduring Freedom was killed in Afghanistan Thursday.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew G. Kantor, 22, of Gillette, N.J., died supporting stability operations in Zabul, Afghanistan, the Department of Defense released Saturday.
Kantor died as a result of a gunshot wound suffered in combat in southern Afghanistan, according to a press release from Naval Special Warfare Group Two.
Kantor was assigned to Naval Special Warfare Group Two which is based in Virginia Beach.
