Two people shot leaving VB nightclub

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Two people were shot leaving a Virginia Beach nightclub early Saturday morning.

The victims were leaving a club in the 200 block of 17th Street at the Oceanfront around 2 a.m. when they saw an altercation taking place.

Police on the scene were dispersing a crowd of people into a parking lot in the 200 block of 16th Street when someone yelled "gun!" The victims began to run and heard several gunshots.

One of the victims was grazed by a bullet and was treated on the scene. The second victim suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released a description of the suspect(s). The victims told police they never saw a gun.

Business owners in the area are concerned what this shooting could mean for them in an already slow time of the year. At Half Moon Music at the Oceanfront Rich Goldstein has to come up with some unique ways to drum up business during the off season.

"We definitely take a loss in October, November and December. We do all right during Christmas," Goldstein said.

But, after that Goldstein says customers are hard to come by. He says any reports of fights or shootings makes breaking even during the winter harder.

"That kind of stuff is never good for business. It's scary actually. I live above the store so it's personal," said Goldstein.

Goldstein says he's not surprised.

"There are fights, but as far as I can tell usually the police get a handle of it pretty quickly," Goldstein said.

As a business owner near nightclubs, Goldstein considers the sometimes unruly club crowd part of what comes with working at the oceanfront. He just hopes that doesn't scare customers away.

"Generally I feel pretty safe. Police are out there doing their job pretty well. But, it's scary and it's not not good for business. It worries me at times," Goldstein said.
