Brothers found dead in VB restaurant

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say two brothers were shot and killed inside of a Virginia Beach fast food restaurant early Tuesday morning.

Virginia Beach police said a delivery truck driver arrived at Rally's fast food restaurant in the 800 block of Lynnhaven Parkway just after 2 a.m. and found one of the victims inside of the restaurant.

Police later found a second body inside the business.

The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Alphonso White and 19-year-old Michael A. Johnson, both of Virginia Beach. White and Johnson were brothers.

"[Johnson] came from Lynnhaven Mall to wait for his brother to get off work," Jeffrey Harris, who worked with White at Rally's said Tuesday.

Harris said White was a hard worker who had a newborn son with fellow Rally's worker Jessica Haynes.

"He wanted a boy from the day I met him," said Haynes. "He told me, 'You're going to give me my baby boy.' And, four years later, I did. I didn't even think I could get pregnant."

Haynes says money was stolen from the restaurant during the robbery attempt. She said the camera pointed at the interior side door did not record video of the attacker because it was broken and that Johnson's body was the first one found. She said White's body was found in the restaurant's office.

"I'm hurt for somebody to do that... it kills me. He just became a manager, succeeded in life doing everything right. For somebody to come and take his life, it hurts me from the bottom of my heart," Harris said.

The general manager of the restaurant told WAVY.com Tuesday morning the restaurant normally closes at midnight and the bodies were found at 2:10 a.m. It is still unclear what time the shootings actually happened or if the victims died at the restaurant.

Rally's spokeswoman Kim Francis released the following statement following the deaths:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims. We are working closely with police and cooperating fully with them in their investigation.”

The investigation is ongoing and there are no suspect description, motives or surveillance video at this time.

Police increased patrols near the restaurant Tuesday night. Other businesses around Rally's are considering extra security personnel and surveillance cameras.

Police say the shooting is not related to Monday's shooting in the area close to Lynnhaven Mall.
