VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Fire crews in Virginia Beach are on the scene of a motel fire near the Oceanfront, Virginia Beach dispatch says.
Images sent in via Report It show one room at the Sandpiper Friendship Inn, located at 1112 Pacific Avenue, on fire. Additional pictures show large amounts of black smoke billowing into the air.
Fire spokesman Tim Riley said the fire start at 7:30 p.m. and was extinguished about 10 minutes later. Riley credited the motel's cinderblock walls, ceiling and floors with containing the fire and smoke to one room. That room was destroyed.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
