VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Hundreds of people gathered at Green Run High School to generate support for local anti-crime efforts.
The 29th annual National Night Out places importance on communication among neighbors and police in hopes that communities will become safer.
"Many times neighbors stay inside, and they don't get to know each other," Deputy Chief of Police John L. Bell, Jr. said. "The best way to protect the community from crime is for us to look out for each other, so it gives us an opportunity for neighbors to come out and get to know each other."
