VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach elementary school student is accused of bringing a BB gun onto the school bus.
According to schools spokeswoman Lauren Wicks, the gun was discovered Wednesday morning, in the child's book bag.
When the bus arrived at the school, officials search the fourth-grader's bag and reportedly found the unloaded BB gun. Police were not called.
The school principal sent out the following AlertNow message to parents, which stated:
Good afternoon Thoroughgood Elementary parents, this is Principal Cheryl Zigrang. I am calling to inform you of an incident that occurred involving one of our students. This morning, a student brought an unloaded BB gun to the bus stop. The student was immediately detained once the bus reached the school, and appropriate disciplinary action is being taken at the school. In the meantime, I ask you to use this as an opportunity to talk with your child about safety and the very real consequences of bringing weapons, including toys and look-alikes, to the school bus and to school.
