Pleasure House Point celebrated Friday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Virginia Beach held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning to officially celebrate the designation of Pleasure House Point as a public park space.

The 118 acres of land near Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach was purchased through an effort by the Trust for Public Land, the City of Virginia Beach, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.  It will now serve as an untouched, public park where people can explore the natural surroundings.

Resident Jennifer Colaizzi lives nearby and told WAVY.com there is still privately owned land in the area. She says there are plans to extend a main road in the neighborhood to facilitate residential development outside the park area.

"All of these organizations and the city worked so hard to preserve what we thought was 100 percent of Pleasure House Point. That's how it was advertised to everybody. You're gonna be building and then you're gonna have run-off that goes into the park area," Colaizzi said.
