VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police are investigating a pedestrian fatality along South Military Highway Tuesday morning.

Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said 67-year-old William John Power of Virginia Beach was struck just before 10:30 a.m. at 7171 S. Military Hwy.

Moyers says Power was traveling westbound on S. Military Highway attempting to cross the street. She says the driver of a tow truck was also traveling in the same direction, and were both exiting a parking lot on the east side. The driver had continued across Military Highway, made a left turn and proceeded driving when he felt something strike his truck.

Moyers says the driver then saw Power lying in the road, immediately pulled over and rushed to Power's aid. Fire personnel responding to a call close in the area were able to respond to the scene where Power was pronounced dead.

Speed and alcohol were not considered to be factors in the crash, Moyers said.

Fire crews closed the southbound lanes of South Military Highway in the area as police investigated the crash. The roads reopened before 1 p.m.
