VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police say alcohol was a factor in a deadly crash along Lynnhaven Parkway Sunday afternoon.
Virginia Beach police spokesman Jimmy Barnes said the driver crossed the median near Primrose Lane at 3:11 p.m. The van struck two cars and flipped over, ejecting the driver.
The van then landed on top of the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as Joseph Leonard Lewis, 34, of Virginia Beach.
Barnes said the Chevrolet F-250 van was traveling south on Lynnhaven Parkway and crossed into oncoming traffic. The van first struck a Nissan Altima and then hit a Lexus.
Medics took the single occupant of the Altima to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital while three others in the Lexus were transported with minor injuries, Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said.
Moyers said Lewis was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is considered a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
