VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach man is learning about the power of failure and you can read all about it in a new book.

Virginia Beach Public Schools recently published a book of essays called " The Power of Belief ". Students, teachers, alumni and community supporters submitted essays for the publication. The essays focus on the values and beliefs important to them.

But one, written by Brandon McIntosh, really stands out.

McIntosh is serving time for grand larceny at St. Bride's Correctional Center. McIntosh was a student in Virginia Beach when he was arrested. McIntosh used his time behind bars to read books, study and attend class every day.

"...without beliefs, you don't have dreams and without dreams, you don't have purpose and I really do want to strive to show that I have a purpose in this world," McIntosh said.

He has earned his GED and is continuing his education.
