VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - VDOT says funds have been allocated to repair pavement, barriers, curbs and drainage on Interstate 264.
Beginning this week, $1.1 million in repairs will begin on barrier walls at three locations between Witchduck Road and Mount Trashmore along I-264. VDOT advises that traffic could be reduced to one lane and shoulders will close.
Work could begin as early as August 2012 on the next leg of the facelift. VDOT says during the first project, $5 million in pavement repairs will be made on the eastbound lanes of I-264 from Witchduck Road to Lynnhaven Parkway. Another project includes $5 million in pavement repairs to be made to both the east and westbound lanes of I-264 for the Lynnhaven Parkway to Parks Avenue exits.
A third contract will improve pavement from Lynnhaven Parkway to London Bridge exits on I-264 eastbound and from London Bridge Road to Witchduck Road exits westbound. This contract is valued at $16 million, and work could begin as early as spring 2013.
VDOT says crews begin replacing 19,000 square yards of concrete pavement on I-264 between Broad Creek Bridge and Claiborne Avenue in Norfolk in spring 2011. This project is scheduled to be completed in November 2012.
