VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - According to a customer survey released by HRT, more than half of light rail riders taking The Tide to its most eastern location would like the rail to extend all way to Virginia Beach.
The survey also revealed The Tide is the number one choice of public transportation for people who have a choice on how they get around Norfolk. Half of those riders would drive if light rail were not an option.
Weekday riders are primarily going to work or home and weekend riders are going shopping or riding recreationally.
A third of the riders catch The Tide at the Newtown Road Station, the most eastern location for light rail.
A majority of these riders say the biggest improvement they want to see is extending light rail all the way into Virginia Beach.
The option to possibly extend light rail to the Beach will be on the ballot in November.
