VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A mechanical failure is being blamed on a fire at a Virginia Beach business early Friday morning.

Battalion Chief Tim Riley with the Virginia Beach Fire Department told WAVY.com the fire came in around 3 a.m. at Bike Beat located in the 1600 block of Laskin Road in the Hilltop area. An air compressor caught fire in a utility room.

Sprinklers turned on, keeping the fire contained to the utility room until fire crews could arrive on scene.

Bike Beat sustained smoke damage and electrical service was disconnected.
