VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - In court Monday, a prosecutor withdrew DUI charges against a man who has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

According to a docket within Virginia Beach Circuit Court, prosecutors have filed to rule the misdemeanor charges against 24-year-old Cameron Crockett nolle prosequi. The charges included were DUI, refusal to take a blood/breath test, illegal possession of alcohol and no driver's license.

Read the docket here.

The Commonwealth's Attorney also states the charges are being nolle prosequi because of the time commitment of 35 witnesses who have already testified 11 times in the past four years.

Crockett pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with an accident in December 2008 that killed 20-year-old John “Jack” Korte Jr.

Crockett had spent three months of 2012 on the run in Belize and Guatemala, during which he skipped a sentencing hearing for the manslaughter conviction. For that instance, he is facing an additional charge of failing to appear in court.

He is scheduled back in court next month for sentencing.
