VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Wave Church in Virginia Beach is baking thousands of cookies to distribute to Beach teachers.

A woman's group from the church came together Wednesday to put together gift bags for all Virginia Beach teachers to thank them ahead of the holidays.

"Every teacher will get a bag just like this," said Wave Church Pastor Sharon Kelly. "It will have a little tag on it with their name, and just wishing them a 'Merry Christmas' and a 'Thank you,' saying, 'Thank you for educating and taking care of our kids.'"

Every cookie was hand-made by the members who, in total, baked more than 30,000 cookies. The goodie bags will be distributed in the coming days.

If there are leftovers, members say they will deliver them to Norfolk teachers.
