VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police say a man found lying in the street late Thursday evening died from a gunshot wound.
According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, a citizen called police about a body lying in the road just before 10 p.m. in the 4100 block of O'Hare Drive and Dahlia Drive.
Moyers said the victim has been identified as 31-year-old Rafael Obes Hernandez of Virginia Beach. Moyers said his death is being investigated as a homicide and he died near his home.
About 20 minutes before the call, Moyers said someone close to the scene said they heard a banging sound in the area, possibly gunshots.
"I was like, wow, that's kind of scary," said Jane Gordon. "[It was] right in front of my house... right in front of my mailbox. To me, it looked like it all started [down the street] and our house was just... we were the lucky ones."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
