VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say alcohol may have played a part in the death of a Virginia Beach bicyclist Wednesday evening.
According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, Juan Salazar-Bermudez, 25, was crossing Laskin Road while riding his bicycle at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Moyers says a driver of a 2002 Acura TL was traveling westbound in the 1300 block of Laskin Road and Salazar-Bermudez was traveling eastbound on the same road.
The driver accurately yielded at the median, but Salazar-Bermudez was struck when he cut across into the path of the Acura, according to Moyers.
Salazar-Bermudez suffered severe head trauma and later passed away from injuries at Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Moyers said alcohol on the part of Salazar-Bermudez may have played a factor in the crash and a toxicology report is pending.
The Commonwealth's Attorney will analyze the incident to determine if charges are appropriate in the case.
