RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - The legislation to allow for Virginia Beach to build an arena using state and local taxes as well as issuing bonds passed a subcommittee this week.
According to bill sponsor Del. Ron Villanueva (R-Virginia Beach), the bill will now move to the full House Finance Committee. If it passes, it will go to the Senate Finance Committee, then to the Senate floor and finally to the governor.
"Hampton Roads has a great sports market area, which has been confirmed by independent studies," Villanueva said. "It reaffirms Hampton Roads as a viable place [for a pro sports team.]"
Last week, it was announced the arena's target anchor team, the Sacramento Kings, will be moving to Seattle.
