NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Department of Homeland Security records show that Transportation Safety Administration officers seized eight handguns from Hampton Roads' two commercial airports since January.
The Daily Press (http://bit.ly/PQeyzK) of Newport News says the weapons haul included a .22-caliber handgun seized last month at Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport.
It was among six firearms that were loaded when they were discovered by TSA officers at security checkpoints since January at both airports.
At Norfolk International Airport, TSA officers have seized a loaded .40 caliber, a loaded .380-caliber, a .25 caliber, and loaded 9 mm weapons.
TSA officers in Norfolk also discovered a flare gun with seven flares and a projectile smoke grenade in a checked bag,
