SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Troopers with the Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident along Route 460 in Sussex County early Thursday morning and say a pedestrian jumped in front of a tractor trailer.

Brooke Groves with the Virginia Department of Transportation told WAVY.com the crash occurred along Route 460 eastbound at Route 614 and involved a pedestrian.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. when a 2005 Sterling tractor trailer traveling eastbound on Route 460 saw a pedestrian in the middle lane of the roadway. The driver of the tractor trailer swerved into the westbound lanes to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

Anaya said the pedestrian, identified as Quentin Aubrey Lensey, 41, of Wakefield then suddenly jumped in front of the tractor trailer and was hit.

Moments later, an unknown vehicle traveling westbound on Route 460 then ran over Lensey and did not stop. That vehicle is still unknown at this time.

No charges will be filed against the driver of the tractor trailer.

Both eastbound lanes of Route 460 were closed for about two and a half hours as crews worked the scene.
