HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Friday signaled the beginning of tax-free weekend in Virginia and North Carolina.

All weekend residents won't have to pay sales tax on school supplies $20 or less, as well as clothes and shoes $100 or less.

"Everybody likes to save, so why not? They have to buy [school supplies] anyway, so why not buy them at a tax-free time?" Office Max manager Elizabeth Belton said.
