SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk police acting on a tip discovered more than they were expecting.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Suburban Drive on Feb. 8 after receiving information that Cory West, of Sunbury, NC, might be at a home there. When officers arrived that Friday night, they knocked on the door and announced themselves. According to a police spokesperson, they saw Mr. West run towards the back of the residence. The officers entered the home and took Mr. West into custody on eight outstanding warrants.
During his arrest, police say Mr. West admitted there was heroin in a back bedroom that he was planning to sell. The home owner gave the officers permission to search the residence. During the search they located the drugs, cutting agents and packaging materials.
Cory West, 24, and Michael Hemmis, 28 of Suffolk, were charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin and conspiracy to distribute heroin.
Earlier the same night, police say Diana Guthrie, 28 of Suffolk, was arrested when she attempted to buy heroin in the 300 block of Suburban Drive. According to police, she voluntarily handed over her heroin syringe to officers.
