SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Suffolk reached an agreement with the Nansemond Indian Tribal Association to develop Mattanock Town, a replica 17th century Indian village.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the deal was agreed upon between Chief Barry Bass with Mayor Linda Johnson and City Manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn.

"We will make this a project that not only preserves our heritage but also is something the citizens of Suffolk will be proud to have in their city," Bass said.

The 71-acre development, located at Lone Star Lakes, will be developed by NITA.

"This project has been a long time coming.  We know that with trust and our ability to work together, Mattanock Town will be an overwhelming success," Johnson said.
