SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Founded by firefighters, Firehouse Subs restaurant in Suffolk has kept firemen close at heart since 2005 with change canisters, donations and change rounding.
Those efforts did not go unnoticed Thursday when the Holland Volunteer Fire Department in Suffolk received life-saving extrication tools worth nearly $30,000.
The volunteer department responds to the Holland district as well as the city of Suffolk.
"They can save precious time and provide the more powerful equipment to have on the scene for extrication," Chief Mark Ellis said.
The foundation assists fire and police departments as well as EMS services that are cash-strapped in tough economic times.
