SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A moped rider was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a truck Monday night.
Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com the crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Carolina Road.
The driver of a pickup truck traveling southbound noticed a vehicle with its high beams on and signaled to the driver. When the other driver dimmed the lights on their vehicle, the pickup truck driver saw the moped, traveling northbound, strike the front of his truck.
The moped flew over the cab of the pickup truck, which went off the roadway and struck several trees. The moped and its rider landed in a ditch and were transported via Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Klink said the driver of the pickup was transported by ground to Sentara Obici Hospital with minor injuries.
The roadway was closed until 6 a.m. as the investigation went on.
