SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Suffolk mother is facing charges after police say she allowed her two elementary school-aged children to miss 30 days of school.

Warrants were secured against Jeraline Blount on Feb. 26 after the Hillpoint Elementary School principal contacted police.

Blount was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for being in violation of compulsory school attendance , according to police spokeswoman Diana Klink.

Suffolk Public Schools policy states “If a student accumulates five (5) unexcused absences, you will be contacted and a parent and the student must attend an in person conference." Mrs. Blount reportedly missed several meetings set up in accordance with the SPS truancy policies.
