SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk Police found a male suffering from a gunshot wound after several calls for suspicious activity Tuesday and are investigating his death as a homicide.

Debbie George with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com officers received the calls in the Respass Beach Road and Burbage Lake Circle area. When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Antonio Boone shot dead in the street.

"It's absolutely unbelievable," Suffolk resident Steve Juilian said. "I never seen anything like this here. We haven't had any problems."

Bethanne Bradshaw with Suffolk Public Schools said Northern Shores Elementary nearby was placed on lockdown as a result of the shooting.

Parents of students at Northern Shores Elementary were told the neighborhood was secured and the school was in Code Yellow, meaning doors to the classrooms were locked but instruction continues. Only authorized personnel were allowed to be in the hallways.
