SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a 7.5 inch knife was found in the backpack of a Turlington Woods School students Wednesday.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, staff smelled marijuana coming out of a boys locker room in the school's gym just before 11 a.m.

Klink said the students were searched inside the library, and during the search, a male student was called over to be searched as well. The student initially said he did not want to be searched.

The school's resource officer and principal searched the student's bag and asked him if there was anything they should know about.

The student then told them he had a knife inside the back and told them where to find it.

The 7.5 inch kitchen knife was never displayed or used in threats, according to Klink.
