SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - For the past two months, Suffolk Public Works crews have been busy in a large scale project to take down trees along a crowded Route 58.
Suffolk Spokesperson Debbie George said 340 trees, to be exact.
"All of them were dead, dying or leaning so they were a concern for our motoring public," George told WAVY.com. "Anytime we had a strong wind come through, a storm or a more severe storm the trees come down."
George also told WAVY.com there have been reports of trees falling on vehicles and even closing roads.
The Public Works Department constantly evaluates, as reports come in, trees that pose hazards along area roads.
Drivers are encouraged to report this information to the city.
