SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a gas line was damaged shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Bridge Road and Bennetts Pasture Road in Suffolk.

Columbia Gas, along with Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to the scene.

Bennets Pasture Road northbound was shut down as was Route 17 southbound.

The Bennets Creek Shoppes were evacuated, according to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk.

Klink says the stores and roads reopened by 5 p.m. that afternoon, but the right-hand turning lane on Bennet's Pasture Road westbound will remain closed while Columbia Gas makes repairs.
