SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - An off-duty firefighter was not injured when an unused firework exploded while he was mowing his lawn.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the call came in around 12:16 p.m., and the Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the Fire Marshal's Office discovered four unexploded fireworks in the 8900 block of River Crescent.

Klink says the fireworks are believed to have come from the Crittenden/Hobson/Eclipse Ruritan Club Fourth of July celebration.

The Marshal's Office says residents in the area should use extreme caution when going into their yards.
