Dog rescued from burning Suffolk home

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say an off-duty firefighter rescued a dog from a burning home Wednesday prior to crews arriving on scene.
According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, crews got a call for single-family house fire in the 1200 block of Peachtree Drive at 12:37 p.m.
The man who reported the fire, an off-duty firefighter, was able to rescue the family's dog.
Crews saw heavy smoke and flames on the side and back of the home, according to Klink. She said the fire was under control at approximately 1:19 p.m.
The fire caused heavy damage to the home. Its residents, two adults and two children, are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
No one was injured and cause is under investigation.
