SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Virginia Natural Gas and the city's police department responded to a gas leak in the Burnetts Mill subdivision of the city Thursday.
According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, a contractor had been doing work in the 200 block of Burnetts Way and notified police they had damaged a gas line shortly before 4 p.m.
Klink says homes were evacuated and Burnetts Way was closed to through traffic.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue cleared the scene at 5:06 p.m. and all residents were permitted to return to their homes.
