SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Firefighters rescued a Suffolk couple from their burning home Saturday morning.
Fire crews responded to the 400 block of Wilson Street after reports of smoke in the Lee - Jackson neighborhood in downtown Suffolk. Crews arrived in the neighborhood and found a two story home on fire.
Firefighters entered the home and found a husband and wife in a downstairs bedroom and were able to pull them to safety, according to a press release from the Suffolk Fire Department.
The couple refused medical treatment at the scene. No firefighters were injured, according to the release. A dog that was chained to the front porch was also saved.
Due to he extent of the fire, extra crews were called in to help battle the fire.
The Suffolk Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the couple, who were renting the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
