SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A child waiting for the bus to pick him up from school says he spotted a bear lurking around a Suffolk neighborhood.

Chase says he was on the porch playing with a friend when he heard a trash can fall.

"The bear was just sitting there, eating the garbage," Chase said.

Chase said he and his friends slowly backed away from the bear then ran back inside. Yoni Wyatt lives in the neighborhood and can confirm Chase's bear sighting.

"He stood up on his hind legs and he was taller than the fence," Wyatt said. "I was like, 'Wow... that is a bear!'"

Wyatt says she is concerned for kids' safety in the neighborhood with a bear around.

"These kids are eating Pop Tarts, I'm concerned they're gonna get mauled," Wyatt said. She has a daughter who waits at the same bus stop.
