HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - A strong cold front poised to move through the Hampton Roads region brought along strong storms Monday afternoon.
There were reports of hail as large as grapes falling in several cities, including Newport News.
Newport News Police spokesman Lou Thurston said the power is out at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Oyster Point Road, which is causing traffic delays.
Newport News Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Lay says there was a report of a boating emergency near the Newport News Shipyard resulting in three occupants towed to the marina.
Portsmouth dispatch says there are trees down in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue, 2100 block of Luckie Street and 700 block of South Street.
The Colley Avenue underpass in Norfolk closed shortly before 6 p.m. because there were cars stuck in the water. Two transformers have blown in Norfolk.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Dare, Martin, Tyrrell, Washington until 9:00 p.m.
