Smithfield man found dead in water

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Police have identified the 27-year-old Virginia man whose body was pulled from the water near Commercial Wharf in Newport over the weekend.

Officials said Justin S. Gromlich, of Smithfield, Va. was a crew member on a fishing vessel known as the Miz Alma B that had arrived in Newport on Sunday afternoon.

Police Lt. William Fitzgerald said he had been seen alive an hour before his body was spotted in the water at about 6:55 p.m. on Sunday.

Authorities say there is no evidence of foul play. Newport police are investigating.
