Sarah Forbes dies in N.C. car crash

COINJOCK, N.C. (WAVY) - Well-known Peninsula OB-GYN and community activist Dr. Sarah Forbes was killed in a car crash Friday.
Forbes was the first female physician to open a private OB/GYN practice in Newport News.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Forbes crashed her Hummer H2 into a farming tractor.
She was traveling south on U.S. 158 in Coinjock when she struck the rear end of the tractor. She then crossed over into the northbound lanes, struck a ditch and then knocked over a utility pole before coming to rest in a patch of trees.
What caused the collision is unknown but police said she had four dogs in her car, and it is possible she became distracted.
The tractor driver was not hurt.
Dr. Sarah Forbes was 85 years old.
