HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Monday marks the final day Virginia residents can register to vote in the upcoming election.
Election day is a little more than three weeks away and in order to participate, residents must register by Oct. 15. Residents have until close of business to get the four-page registration application filled out.
There are a few different places residents can go to register.
One way is by visiting a local registration office, which can be found by clicking here . The application can also be found online, filled out and mailed in. To access the application, click h ere .
Whether you're visiting a local office, or mailing the application, make sure you have at least one form of identification showing you're a Virginia resident. Examples of identification include a Virginia driver's license, current utility bill or bank statement.
Anyone mailing their application must include a copy of that document with the application. It is important to know that residents mailing their applications must have them postmarked by Oct. 15.
Those planning on filling out an application in person must get to the registration office before 5 p.m. Monday.
Keep in mind, once you submit the application, you're not automatically registered to vote. Your application must be approved by the local registrar. If approved, you should receive your voter registration card before the election. If you don't receive it, contact the registration office for your city or county.
