SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The 911 tapes from Friday's BASE jumping death of a Navy SEAL were released Monday to WAVY.com.
Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Tyler Stimson, 30, died when he and another SEAL, Jason Tompsett, were BASE jumping from a cell phone tower in Suffolk.
Below is a transcript from some of the 911 call by Tompsett:
Tompsett: A jumper fell.
Dispatcher: A jumper fell? Where was he jumping from?
Tompsett: He was jumping from a tower.
*****
Dispatcher: How did you all get there sir?
Tompsett: Tyler! Tyler stay with me Tyler stay with me.
(Then the call disconnected and the dispatcher called back)
Dispatcher: How far did he fall?
Tompsett: I don't know, I just want to attend to him if I can. I just wanted to get the call in.

Investigators say Stimson's parachute did open during the jump. Detectives brought in experts from the military to come in and examine the chute. They determined there were no defects with it.
Investigators believe when Stimson launched, he was off balance and the cord wrapped around his leg; therefore, the chute could not deploy properly.
