VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Sandbridge property owner discovered a body hidden in thick shrubbery near his home Sunday afternoon.
Virginia Beach police spokesman Jimmy Barnes said the owner called 911 about 3:30 p.m. to report a body hidden in thick brush in the 3500 block of Sandfiddler Road.
A detective at the scene said the body belonged to a female. The body was taken to the Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office, and police expect an identification sometime Monday after the autopsy, Barnes said.
Barnes said he was unable to confirm the female was the woman reported missing in Sandbridge last December. Diane Hartzog, 59, was last seen Christmas Eve in the 3500 block of Sandfiddler Road and walking toward the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
