PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Railroad Museum was dedicated Thursday afternoon in Virginia after 12 years of planning.

The museum consists of a 1910-era Norfolk and Western Train, led by a steam locomotive that sat in a Roanoke scrap yard for nearly 60 years. It has taken more than a decade to bring the old train back to life.

"It's a wonderful feeling that we've finally got there after working on it for so long and so many efforts made," Museum President Willard J. Moody, Sr. said. "It's a huge undertaking to build something like this."

The museum is located in downtown Portmsouth right next to the nTelos Wireless Pavilion and will open to the public Friday, Nov. 2. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $2 for children.
