PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth firefighters were called to the Pines Treatment Center on Portsmouth Boulevard early Wednesday morning.
When crews arrived shortly before 1 a.m., the fire was about to burn through the roof, according to Fire Chief Jim Hoffler.
Investigators determined a water line that ruptured caused a short in the electrical system and they believe that is what started the fire.
The fire originated in the kitchen area and spread into the attic. According to Chief Hoffler, firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading any further.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. It had been recently vacated.
