PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say two adults and at least two children have been displaced following a house fire close to Craddock Middle School shortly after noon Wednesday.
According to Chief Jim Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department, no one was home during the fire on the 20 block of Alden Avenue.
Hoffler says one firefighter fell through the floor up to his waist while clearing the floor above the fire but was pulled up by a fellow firefighter.
Hoffler says the home suffered significant smoke damage and is still structurally sound, but not inhabitable.
